When you are desensitized you have no feeling of emotion such as empathy rendering your mind to be almost absent from its place in your head. Desensitization can occur in many instances from violent media like television, boxing, action movies, but one instance that I am particularly interested in is when you are playing violent video games. Many people say how it leads you to be being emotionless when you are killing another person or multiple people within a violent video game. I think this is definitely the case, but does it lead you to commit acts of violence in real life is the question.
Multiple scientific experiments have been surrounded around the testing of desensitization among people who play violent video games where the study includes a plethora of factors added to the equation . Factors such as gender, amount of time spent on violent video games and the effects the violence has on individuals. In addition, experiments on frequent and infrequent gamers have been conducted to monitor the cognitive processing of both groups where frequent gamers were less empathetic than infrequent gamers. It may be a stereotype that men play may more video games especially violent ones rather than women men tend to be more aggressive when playing. The concern with males who play violent video games is that they are may more likely to act out, maybe even towards others in real life.
The violent acts that males who play violent video games can be horrible depending on the outlook you have on life where many fear that they are the reason that shootings occur. But based on the conclusions that scientists come to, there is no direct correlation between aggressive characteristics and committing crimes when it comes to those who play violent video games. Many U.S. citizens may continue to believe that violent video games is what drives people to committing crime, but it may be that there is more behind the curtain that is left unseen.
